First Post and Sewing Goals

So it feels sort of awkward to just start writing but here it goes…

For my birthday last year I asked my parents for a sewing machine because I had become interested in learning to sew my own clothes for a while. Luckily the local sewing machine store was having a sale around the same time as my birthday so my parents agreed. Since then I have fallen in love both with sewing, and the pleasure that wearing clothes that you made yourself that sewing brings, but the online community of bloggers and vloggers that are all passionate about sewing. I wanted to engage in this community to a greater degree than liking and commenting on blog posts and videos can bring so I decided to start a blog.

I’m still very new to sewing (I only started to sew in September last year) so I though a blog would be a great way to document my journey as I learn to sew and increase my skills. I thought it would be a good idea to start this blog with some goals so that by the end of the year I can see how far I have come 🙂

Goals:

1. To sew the garments in the #sewmystyle tag

I first saw this tag from Little Miss Lorraine on Youtube and thought the patterns all looked like this I would like to wear. Since they are all beginner patterns I thought this would be a good way to be exposed to different kinds of patterns, garment types, and fabrics. Since I am a full time student and also have a part time job my goal is to just sew them all, but not worry too much about making sure its within the monthly timeframe.

2. To be able to sew in an invisible zipper

When I first started to sew I was sewing patterns from Tilly and the Buttons Love at First Stitch While I was able to sew the Margot Pyjama pants (and have made multiple pairs) I was stumped by the invisible zips in the later patterns. So by the end of this year I don’t want to be afraid of invisible zips.

3. To make well fitting pants

Where I live in Australia gets too cold for dresses and skirts on a daily basis so I want to be able to make well fitting pants for winter by the end of the year.

So I hope that you enjoyed reading this and I would love to hear any sewing goals that you may have.

xx

I recommend it so much as the sewing community there is just so positive and supportive! Looking forward to seeing your posts xx (PS get yourself an invisible zip sewing machine foot and they are the easiest zip to sew!!!)

Hi, thanks so much 🙂 I wanted to get an invisible zip foot but couldn’t find one so I watched videos for how to do it with a normal one but it did not end well… I do have an Instagram (with the same name) but no posts yet 🙂

EBay is great for cheap sewing machine feet – mine was less than a pound as I bought a very cheap one just to try it but it works perfectly fine so I’ve kept it! Hope that helps ☺
